How our Radiant Heat Systems Work

Our heat is engineered to provide safety, comfort and low cost operation, and does so with complete flexibility. It is ideally suited for applications where large open areas are to be warmed. Simply described, it is a network of highest quality aluminized steel tubing heated by burners. Combustion air is brought in from outside the building. The hot combustion gases are moved through tubes by the finest high energy exhaust system available. The combustion contaminants are exhausted outside the building, promoting health and safety.

Radiant Heat
A system of reflectors above the tubing directs the "radiant heat" in a downward fashion. Since infrared heat heats objects, not the air, concrete floors absorb the majority of the heat and re-radiate it. This leaves floors warm and dry, promoting worker comfort. In effect - we heat mass - not air. That’s the secret.

Our equipment does not require massive air movement to heat your building, so without gravity air vents, heat loss from air movement is virtually eliminated. You can expect to save 50 to 75% over conventional heating systems with any radiant system from CRC (documentation available).

The Benefits of Radiant Heating with CRC Environmental

Since our radiant heaters warm mass not air, several benefits occur when compared with conventional forced air systems. Payback periods for equipment of one to three years are commonplace with our customers. Fuel savings of 50% are routinely achieved. And, just like the sunshine, employee comfort can be enhanced while temperature settings are 5 to 10 degrees cooler than with a forced air system or other conventional heat.

Heat losses are reduced. For example, when a large overhead door is opened to winter air, some warm air escapes - yes - but after the door is closed, the concrete floor continues to re-radiate heat. Chills are eliminated. The units are efficient and clean. Under no circumstances are any products of combustion ever forced down the throats of employees - something you can’t truly say about many unit heaters still sold today. Any exhaust goes OUT of the building, as it should.

And by conserving fuel, we restrict emissions and benefit the environment and the pocket book of the consumers. At CRC Environmental Inc. we are pleased with the environmental friendliness of our equipment.

Radiant Heating, The Principle...

The heating of an object or mass can be achieved in various ways. These include conduction, convection, radiation, or a combination thereof. Radiation is distinctly unique when compared with conduction and convection because it does not require a medium to achieve a transfer of heat.

Radiated heat or "infrared"/"radiant" heat is transmitted at the speed of light - 186,000 miles per SECOND - in a virtual straight line with minimal loss or leakage to air. To demonstrate this, consider that the sun - 93,000,000 miles from the earth, does a marvelous job of making our environment hospitable, while the air between the sun and the earth is frigid to the extreme. When infrared strikes mass or an object, it is converted to heat at the surface. Surrounding air is then warmed by conduction and convection.

CRC Environmental Inc. produces extremely efficient radiant heat, employing either natural gas, propane or oil. Our heat is radiated into the mass objects in a building, its contents, the floor, all objects AND the people. The transmission of heat to people is an experience that effectively parallels the warming rays of the sun. People and animals find great comfort in this natural heat of ours. IT IS NATURAL!

All of the objects absorbing the heat rays, become somewhat warmer than the surrounding air, and effectively become low-level heat exchangers, re-radiating or distributing their heat energy to provide a higher Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT).

The truth is, that our radiant heat is proven to be efficient in the extreme, and our commitment to environmental responsibility is as proudly demonstrated by the performance of our products, as it is on our name.

So, the original heat, as old as the Book of Genesis, is now finally being recognized for its excellence, its simplicity, and its environmental compatibility.

No other form of heat has withstood the test of time attributed to the radiant heat experience.
